The laboratory of  K. Thermos at the Department of Pharmacology, School of Medicine, University of Crete (http://thermoslab.med.uoc.gr/index.html) is looking for a post-doctoral research fellow and two post graduate students  in the context of a recently granted research project  titled: Investigation of New Therapeutics for Diabetic Retinopathy: Neurosteroidal Microneurotrohins (DiabRetTherapeutics - 3646/ Excellence II/Αριστεία ΙΙ). 

The successful applicants will study the neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties of two novel synthetic neurosteroidal microneurotrophins in the streptozotocin (STZ) model of diabetic retinopathy. Emphasis will be given to the study of  the pharmocokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of these molecules in order to assess their possible value for retinal therapeutics and to promote their further investigation at the clinical level. In addition, the biochemical relationship among neurons, glia, and specialized vasculature (neurovascular unit) will also be studied.

Applicants should have a PhD or MSc in any field that is relevant to the proposed project, such as pharmacology, neuroscience, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry  or a related one.

The initiation of the project will be February 1 2014 and will be funded for 18 months. The candidates will be employed for 12-18 months.
